BHP’s David Lamont, for example, signed off on a near $10 billion deal to acquire copper miner OZ Minerals in May. It is a big piece of a new South Australian copper precinct that adds to BHP’s own Olympic Dam, and creates the scale needed to make a new mill worthwhile that can make more use of the mined ore.
